THE ONIONS

I have been a member of Seattle Academy's top-performing jazz choir called "The Onions" for three years. Words cannot express how grateful I am to have the opportunity to come to class every day and be surrounded by such a committed and talented group of musicians who want nothing more than to live up to the years-long legacy of The Onions, a group that has routinely won first place at the esteemed Reno Jazz Festival. Below is a sampling of our repertoire from the years that I have been in the group.

"In My Life"
by The Beatles

At the end of every trimester, my school puts on "End of Tri" where every performing arts class performs in front of the entire school (6th-12th grade). After nearly two full years of virtual videos and performances, I was finally able to sing live with The Onions. I even got to count us in at the beginning!

"Tennessee Waltz"
by Jacob Collier

This song includes 8-part harmony throughout the piece, 5-part 16th-note quintuplets, and 26 pages of music. This performance opened my eyes to the impact music can have and is a true testament to the musical capabilities of our group.

"Hide And Seek"
by Imogen Heap

Our video of “Hide and Seek” remains my all-time favorite virtual choir video from The Onions. This song reminds me of a deeply committed group of people that stayed resilient when the world threw us a massive curveball.

"Let It Be"
by The Beatles

We learned, practiced, and recorded this classic song completely virtually. This video is an incredible demonstration of our hard work and dedication that allowed us to flourish in a pandemic. We even got our video featured on King 5 News!
